As well as our timetabled classes, we encourage the importance of extra-curricular activities. This forms part of our philosophy of developing pupils’ life skills.
LDC offer workshops, PPA cover and after school and lunch time clubs to enable pupils to experience a broad range of challenges and experiences.
Participation in extra-curricular activities allows pupils the opportunity to experience and explore new interests which they may not ordinarily have had the chance to pursue outside of school. For information on our extra services please feel free to get in touch.
The disciplines we offer are detailes below.
The foundation of all dance styles. Beauty, flow and elegance are inherent in the elements of ballet. Ballet is the classical dance form that can be mastered by itself or used as a technical base or supplement to other dance forms. Classes focus on overall body alignment and awareness with emphasis on correct usage of feet and legs and execution of turnout. Carriage and usage of upper torso and arms are also stressed. We currently follow the RAD Ballet syllabus where children can be entered into examinations and work through the grades.
Tap has evolved as an American dance form, popularized throughout the world. Classes emphasize the development and strengthening of basic tap technique and terminology highlighting the importance of rhythm and sound. Tap focuses on rhythms and intricate footwork, creating a percussion instrument out of the dancer’s feet. We Follow the ISTD Tap syllabi, where students can be entered into examinations.
Modern Theatre dance is a rhythmic dance style which originated in America before travelling to the rest of the world. It is often seen on the stages of musical productions and is known for its theatrical qualities. The style uses travelling steps, high kicks, leaps and turns which all need strength and flexibility. This is a highly energetic dance style. We follow the ISTD Modern Theatre syllabi, where students can be entered for examinations.
Our Street Dance Classes for Beginners comprise of commercial and urban street styles. This is an introduction to street dance, combining basic moves and techniques to form fun extended routines.
Acro is an especially challenging style for dancers to master as training in both dance and acrobatic elements are required. Acro technique includes balancing, limbering, tumbling and partnering, based in flexibility, contortion and strength.
